Lick Sleeve Design:

The Lick Sleeve design is simple but effective. Like many products, it was created and developed out of necessity.

It was designed by Dr. David Allman who is a Board-Certified Canine Surgeon living in Austin, Texas. He specializes in orthopedic surgeries on dogs and owns a mobile surgery service to assist the area with complicated orthopedic repairs.

For many years, he received phone calls from dog owners who weren’t having the desired success with the “cone of shame” which can have a negative impact on a dog’s well-being.

To solve the problem for his clients, he hand-designed a fabric sleeve by cutting up one of his long sleeve shirts at home with some scissors and a unique pattern.

The Fabric:

The first two things that I noticed when I took it out of the box was how lightweight and soft it was.

The fabric is 95% polyester and 5% spandex which makes it very comfy and cozy for your dog. It is breathable so it doesn’t trap any moisture which can worsen the infection. It is also flexible so that it fits snugly on your dog’s back leg.

Additionally, it is machine washable which is great considering how much dogs love to play and get dirty. It does need to be hung out to dry to avoid any shrinkage. If it gets any wrinkles, you can cool iron it without any issues.

Functionality:

It is designed to stay on your dog. It slides over your dog’s leg and then wraps around the body to ensure it doesn’t slip off during a walk or play time. The two ends attach with an adjustable nylon strap and buckle.
